The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to join our team at Leonardo in Basildon. As part of the Integrated Sensing and Protection line of business, you will contribute to delivering defence electronics, mission critical systems, and surveillance solutions across various domains.

As a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer, you will have the opportunity to develop cross-functional relationships and positively influence project teams to support the future of our business and enhance the production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously improve manufacturing equipment processes, challenging current processes and facilities to reduce costs and timescales.
  • Participate in uptime/utilization data analysis to optimize equipment effectiveness.
  • Maintain and calibrate manufacturing equipment, including internal and external calibration processes, and conduct Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to schedule.
  • Interface with the Calibration Services provider to support calibration and repair requirements of manufacturing and test equipment and tooling.
  • Assist in maintaining spares for maintenance, repair, and upgrade activities.
  • Resolve routine manufacturing equipment issues and constraints on the shop floor, reacting efficiently to escalations from manufacturing teams.
  • Support the design, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing EPA/ESD arrangements to ensure successful ESD processes.
  • Maintain manufacturing equipment documentation, including maintenance schedules and process checklists.
  • Maintain critical spares and proactively review/oversight of obsolescence.
  • Support the maintenance of manufacturing support facilities and services to ensure successful manufacture/test of products.
  • Support capital investments, including installation and maintenance definition.
  • Assist and support Manufacturing Engineering in preparing Manufacturing Maturity Reviews.
  • Participate in Equipment Criticality Assessment/Risk Assessment processes.
  • Support internal and external audits of Manufacturing, Test Equipment, and Calibration processes.
  • May supervise an Industrial Placement or Summer Student.
  • Maintain equipment and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

Requirements

  • Good practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and principles.
  • Ability to articulate and explain technical understanding.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Data analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated achievement of own tasks within equipment engineering discipline.
  • Awareness of related engineering disciplines and levels of interaction required within an IPT.
  • Experience of measurement techniques and the use of equipment, such as temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure, vacuum, airborne particles, and vibration relevant to manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience of manufacturing equipment, facilities, and supporting services, including Clean Rooms, Special to Type Test Rooms, Environmental Facilities & Chambers (Thermal & Vibration).
