Job Opportunity


We are seeking a highly skilled Ground Segment Software Architect to join our team at KDC.



Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:



  • Designing and developing software-based Ground Segment Systems, including Monitoring and Control Segment Systems, Mission Systems, User Segment Systems, and Earth Observation Data Management Systems.
  • Designing and developing solutions utilizing state-of-the-art software architectures and techniques.
  • Planning and executing Integration and Test campaigns.
  • Producing technical and development plans.
  • Preparing and participating in technical reviews.


Proposal Preparation

The candidate will also be responsible for preparing proposals to win new work, including:



  • Understanding the technical requirements and project scope.
  • Specifying the solution and trading off alternatives.
  • Writing clear and concise technical proposals to express the solution and its benefits to the client.


Software Development

As required, the role may involve hands-on software development support to projects, including coding of critical areas, code review, prototyping, and validating approaches and frameworks.



Requirements and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:



  • A university degree in Software Engineering or a related discipline with software modules.
  • Around 10 years of commercial experience in software development, preferably in the space industry.


Essential Skills

The successful candidate will possess:



  • Requirements analysis.
  • Software system design using modern architectures.
  • Configuration management (Git source code control).
  • Agile software development methodology.
  • Linux development.
  • Resource Oriented Architecture Development (REST).
  • Continuous integration/deployment environments (Jenkins).
  • Virtualisation/cloud-based computing.
  • Containers and Orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • DevOps.


Desirable Skills

The ideal candidate will also have:



  • Knowledge of Ground Segment Systems.
  • Machine learning and AI.
  • Knowledge of OGC Standards (WPS, WMS, WFS, WCS).
  • User Identification, Authentication, and Authorisation (SAML, OAUTH, OIDC).
  • Big Data Processing & Frameworks (Hadoop).
  • Big Data Databases (HDFS, other non-SQL).
  • Windows development.
  • Scripting (shell, perl, python).
