Ground Segment Software Architect

Job Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Ground Segment Software Architect to join our team at KDC.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Designing and developing software-based Ground Segment Systems, including Monitoring and Control Segment Systems, Mission Systems, User Segment Systems, and Earth Observation Data Management Systems.
- Designing and developing solutions utilizing state-of-the-art software architectures and techniques.
- Planning and executing Integration and Test campaigns.
- Producing technical and development plans.
- Preparing and participating in technical reviews.
Proposal Preparation
The candidate will also be responsible for preparing proposals to win new work, including:
- Understanding the technical requirements and project scope.
- Specifying the solution and trading off alternatives.
- Writing clear and concise technical proposals to express the solution and its benefits to the client.
Software Development
As required, the role may involve hands-on software development support to projects, including coding of critical areas, code review, prototyping, and validating approaches and frameworks.
Requirements and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A university degree in Software Engineering or a related discipline with software modules.
- Around 10 years of commercial experience in software development, preferably in the space industry.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate will possess:
- Requirements analysis.
- Software system design using modern architectures.
- Configuration management (Git source code control).
- Agile software development methodology.
- Linux development.
- Resource Oriented Architecture Development (REST).
- Continuous integration/deployment environments (Jenkins).
- Virtualisation/cloud-based computing.
- Containers and Orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
- DevOps.
Desirable Skills
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Knowledge of Ground Segment Systems.
- Machine learning and AI.
- Knowledge of OGC Standards (WPS, WMS, WFS, WCS).
- User Identification, Authentication, and Authorisation (SAML, OAUTH, OIDC).
- Big Data Processing & Frameworks (Hadoop).
- Big Data Databases (HDFS, other non-SQL).
- Windows development.
- Scripting (shell, perl, python).
