About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Design Team Lead to join our growing Geotechnical Design team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing discipline delivery through the Network Rail assurance process, including application of the Network Rail acceptance, review, derogation and non-compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate delivery of projects to time and budget, ensuring a high standard of technical quality and compliance with our internal management systems.
  • Produce designs, assessments or checking work, including preparation or checking of calculations, written reports, specifications and other contract deliverables.
  • Ensure that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice.
  • Supervise a team of engineers and technicians, mentoring and developing less experienced engineers and technicians within your project teams.
  • Develop and maintain Client relationships through your project work, including identifying and realising any potential business opportunities.

Your Skills

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Achieved Chartership status with CGeol or CEng (or equivalent).
  • An MSc in either Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Significant experience in the rail, tunnelling or infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience working in a railway design and build environment.
  • Evidence of undertaking previous CRE(Discipline) roles under the Engineering Management for Project standard (NR/L2/RSE/02009).
  • Evidence of participating in IDCs or joint IDC/IDRs as a discipline specialist.
  • Experience both on site and in the design office.
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes.
  • Sound understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically the Designer's requirements.
  • Broad capability in geotechnical design – earthworks, retaining structures, foundations.
  • Sound understanding of the requirements regarding the risk assessment process.
  • Good team leadership skills with the ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers.
