Job Title: Material Model Developer

We are seeking a highly skilled Material Model Developer to join our Materials Physics Group at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in understanding and predicting the behavior of various materials under extreme loading conditions.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge scientific research and modelling projects, with a focus on developing and implementing models that can simulate the behavior of nuclear warheads. You will work closely with our team of experts to design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop new models and simulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement finite element codes to simulate the behavior of materials under extreme loading conditions
  • Perform simulations of dynamic experiments to validate strength and damage models
  • Collaborate with the team to design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and develop new models and simulations
  • Work with scientific programming languages such as Fortran, C++, and Python
  • Contribute to the development of new research projects and initiatives
Requirements
  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience in scientific computational modelling methods, finite element simulation, plasticity modelling, crystal plasticity, damage modelling, or continuum mechanics
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Fortran, C++, and Python
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
