Accountant Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to work as an Accountant in a well-established organisation based in Guildford. The successful candidate will report to the Financial Accountant and the Finance Director.

The role is office-based initially, with a view to a hybrid option after probation, allowing for a better work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and process prepayments and accruals as part of month-end procedures.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset register for accurate records of company assets.
  • Assist in preparation and posting of month-end journals.
  • Prepare and assist with VAT returns ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Support with Work in Progress (WIP) and debt reviews identifying outstanding issues and resolving them.
  • Provide support during annual audit process liaising with auditors and preparing relevant documentation.
  • Manage and maintain nominal ledger and other financial registers.
  • Process supplier invoices employee expenses and ensure proper coding and approvals.
  • Assist with daily bank reconciliations and ensure discrepancies are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Process regular supplier payment runs and handle ad-hoc payments as needed.
  • Address finance-related queries from internal and external stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
Requirements
  • Apart from being part-qualified, you must have a strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
  • At least 2-3 years experience in a busy finance department is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook is essential.
  • Xero accounting software experience is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • You must have strong communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
  • A good telephone manner and organisational skills are necessary.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work is expected.

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum
