Job Title: Salaried GP

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:
  1. The post-holder will manage a caseload and handle a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
  2. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
  3. Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  4. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  5. In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  6. Provide counselling and health education.
  7. Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  8. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  9. Collect data for audit purposes.
  10. Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible).
  11. Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
Other Responsibilities:
  1. Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  2. A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.
  3. Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  4. Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records.
  5. Contributing to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data.
  6. Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

  1. Communicate effectively with other team members, patients and carers.
  2. Recognise peoples' needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
  3. Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance.
  4. Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.
  5. Participate in audit where appropriate.
Professional Development:
  1. Maintain continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements for PREP are met.
  2. Participate in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development.
  3. Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
