The Association of Academic Museums & Galleries invites applications for the Director of the Trout Gallery, a premier art museum and teaching gallery at Dickinson College. As a key member of the college's academic community, the Director will be responsible for the overall management and operation of the gallery, including exhibition planning, curation, and educational programming.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement exhibition schedules and plans, including independent curation from the permanent collection.
- Collaborate with faculty and students on exhibitions and educational programs.
- Oversee the inventory and appraisal of the permanent collection, and work to enhance the collection through acquisitions and donor cultivation.
- Manage a staff of five, including a registrar, educational outreach coordinator, and gallery attendants, as well as student workers and interns.
- Develop and manage the gallery's budget, including its significant endowment.
- Meet with a gallery advisory committee monthly and report directly to the provost.
- PhD in Art History or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in museum-related work, including teaching experience in higher education.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and experienced museum professional with a strong track record of exhibition planning, curation, and educational programming. They will be able to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff to achieve the gallery's mission and goals.
