Director of the Trout Gallery

Dickinson College seeks a visionary leader to oversee the operations of the Trout Gallery, a premier art museum and teaching gallery. The successful candidate will be responsible for exhibition planning, curation, and educational programming, as well as outreach to the local and broader artistic communities.

The Director will work closely with the art and art history department, college advancement, and other stakeholders to identify and solicit potential exhibitors and exhibitions. They will implement exhibitions, including scheduling, staffing, marketing, and production of gallery openings. The Director will also oversee the inventory and appraisal of the permanent collection, enhance the collection, and manage staff effectively to ensure excellence in collections, exhibits, and education.

Minimum Requirements: A PhD in Art History, five years or more prior experience in museum-related work, and teaching experience in higher education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and solicit potential exhibitors and exhibitions
  • Implement exhibitions, including scheduling, staffing, marketing, and production of gallery openings
  • Oversee the inventory and appraisal of the permanent collection
  • Enhance the collection, including the recording of acquisitions
  • Manage staff effectively to ensure excellence in collections, exhibits, and education
