Job Summary

HITACHI RAIL LIMITED is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Refuelling Operative to join our team at North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London. As a Refuelling Operative, you will be responsible for the servicing and maintenance of trains, including fuel, toilet, screen wash, diesel, and other essential systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake regular servicing and replenishment of trains, including diesel, Ad-Blu, toilet system servicing, and other essential systems.
  • Record all servicing activities and fluids/materials used in the maintenance management system (MMS).
  • Conduct daily checks of service spine equipment and ensure the area is tidy and clean.
  • Report any defects found to the Refuelling Team Leader and record in the MMS.
  • Support maintenance staff with corrective and preventative maintenance, complex fault finding, and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets.
  • Support the development of the maintenance management system (MMS) and ensure all servicing requirements are captured and delivered.
  • Control and record fluid and material usage, and ensure all materials being returned to stores are correctly labelled and processed.
  • Comply with lean principles and best practices as instructed at North Pole and other out-stabled locations.
  • Support maintenance staff and cleaners to ensure the contractual agreed number of trains are made available for service.
  • Health and safety: follow correct working practices at all times, use relevant PPE equipment, and ensure roadways/pits are kept clean after work.
  • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete duties.
  • Carry out first-level fault rectification on service spine equipment.
  • Assist with general depot duties as required.

Requirements

  • Local PTS (Possession of Track Safety) certification.
  • Manual handling, COSHH, working at height, powered plant, and tools experience.
  • Experience supporting a maintenance team on a shift basis in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
  • Safety awareness gained in operational railway environments.
  • Experience working at stabling out stations or main line stations in an operational area.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work.
  • Good communication skills and ability to carry out clear instructions.
  • Experience with modern maintenance management systems (MMS) and associated reliability and availability trend analysis.

Desired Skills

  • Basic IT skills.
  • First aid certification.
  • Experience in the operation of refuelling points for rolling stock.
  • Depot protection system experience.
  • Working at height, COSHH, manual handling, AC/DC depot isolation experience.
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS certification.
