Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Associate to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Social Anthropology or a relevant discipline, with a strong background in ethnographic techniques and research methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ethnographic research among informal extractive economies in Amazonia, working closely with a remote sensing expert and a team of ethnographers.
  • Design and lead projects/work packages, and contribute to the development of an interdisciplinary project workplan and analytical pipeline.
  • Collect and analyze data on the social, legal, and technical dimensions of small-scale extraction in Amazonia, and contribute to the production of high-quality research outputs.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, research team, and software developers to achieve project objectives.
  • Travel to South America to undertake data collection and engage with collaborating partners.
Requirements
  • PhD in Social Anthropology or a relevant discipline, with training in ethnographic techniques.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative work.
  • Language skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese (desirable).
