Job Summary

This is a new substantive appointment to the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, developed to deliver on-demand services and as part of our strategy to expand and improve the delivery of Cardiology services. The post will be a cross-site position, covering both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells hospitals, as part of our vision to reconfigure cardiac services. The ideal candidate will have a subspecialty interest in coronary intervention and be able to contribute fully to the general cardiology service, in addition to providing coronary intervention sessions.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will participate in a heart attack centre pPCI role and be supported within the local job plan. They will also contribute to the general cardiology service, participate in clinical and other service activities, and work closely with other medical, professional, and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. The post holder will be responsible for the management of junior medical staff, ensuring that all doctors in training for whom they have supervisory responsibilities undertake delegated clinical tasks that are within their level of competence and knowledge.

About Us

The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was formed in April 2000 by the merger of the Mid Kent Healthcare Trust and the Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust. It provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 480,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist services to a considerably larger population. The Trust's major hospitals are the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and Maidstone Hospital. The Trust's Chairman is Mr David Highton, the Chief Executive is Mr Miles Scott, and the Medical Director is Dr Peter Maskell. Clinical services are organised into nine Directorates. The Chief of Service for Emergency Services is Dr Laurence Maiden, the Clinical Director for Medicine is Dr Simon Webster, and the Clinical Lead for Cardiology is Dr Laurence Nunn.

Key Requirements

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cardiology, with a subspecialty interest in coronary intervention. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical and other service activities, contribute to the general cardiology service, and work closely with other medical, professional, and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. They will also be responsible for the management of junior medical staff, ensuring that all doctors in training for whom they have supervisory responsibilities undertake delegated clinical tasks that are within their level of competence and knowledge.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

MB BS (or equivalent)
Registered with GMC
Possession or within 6 months of CCT
Evidence of modular training in coronary intervention

Desirable qualifications and experience include:

Distinctions, scholarships, prizes
Other degrees, eg BSc, MSc MD
Evidence of participation in audit projects
Evidence of personal research projects and their presentation
Publications in peer-reviewed journals
