Senior Software Engineer - Threat Protection

Mimecast protects email and collaboration tools, managing human risk and staying ahead of cyber threats with advanced security solutions.

The driving force behind the scanning platform at Mimecast, the Gateway Security team scans massive volumes of email traffic for our customers. Our pioneering Email Platform pushes the boundaries of what's possible, leveraging the latest technologies and tooling in AWS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver complex software projects within specific time-scales while engaging with multiple senior stakeholders.
  • Transform product requirements into features/enhancements working with architects, Product Management, and cross-functional teams.
  • Design and develop scalable backend systems using Java 11 and above, with expertise in AWS services such as ALB, S3, ElastiCache, IAM, CloudWatch, ECS, EKS.
  • Lead backlog grooming, planning, design reviews, and code reviews, defining coding standards and ensuring consistency with company-wide technology adoptions.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  • Act as a technical lead within the team through collaboration, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrable expertise in Java development, with a strong command of Java 11 and above.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and optimizing backend systems for data processing at scale within AWS.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with AWS services, such as ALB, S3, ElastiCache, IAM, CloudWatch, ECS, EKS.
  • Knowledge and experience of Kubernetes is desirable.
  • Experience in building scalable, distributed REST/HTTP-based microservices on hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience with high concurrency applications, multithreading, and low-latency server architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Jenkins and establishing robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in an Agile environment using approaches such as Scrum.
  • Proficiency in both relational and NoSQL databases, with an understanding of database design, optimization, and management.
  • Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of email messaging and security is highly advantageous.
