Practice Nurse

The Practice Nurse - Clinical Expert will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of Southview Medical Practice. This position requires a registered general nurse with a strong background in clinical expertise, particularly in diabetes, CHD, asthma, and COPD management.
Main Responsibilities- Work alongside healthcare assistants to develop their skills and provide guidance on clinical procedures.
- Support the practice in achieving quality indicators and targets of the GMS contract and relevant National Service Frameworks.
- Perform basic nursing duties, including venepuncture, ECG, wound care, and management of dressing techniques.
- Undertake male, female, and family planning assessments, provide advice, and refer patients appropriately.
- Contribute to the maintenance of practice disease registers and provide lifestyle advice to patients.
- Provide an adult and childhood immunization service, working to Patient Group Directions.
- Deliver travel health advice and recognize signs of child abuse, family violence, vulnerable adults, substance abuse, addictive behaviors, suicidal tendencies, and local referral procedures.
- Apply infection control measures and undertake first aid and management of emergencies, burns, hemorrhage, hypo/hyperglycemic emergencies, and asthma attacks.
- Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques.
- Provide professional and managerial support to healthcare assistants and review and monitor patients within primary care.
- Offer guidance and support to healthcare assistants to improve standards of care.
- Participate in chronic disease management clinics within the practice, provide practical assistance, and professional advice to achieve minimum standards of care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and advise and support other members of the team towards common objectives.
- Provide professional advice and support to healthcare professionals within the primary healthcare team.
- Participate in training and facilitation of other practice nurses and healthcare assistants.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for healthcare assistants.
- Maintain a level of expertise in specific chronic disease management and other pertinent areas of healthcare.
- Advise members of the public on health promotion, education, prevention, and protection.
- Seek out new knowledge of nursing and healthcare by reading, enquiring, and participating in continuous education programs.
- Registered general nurse.
- Evidence of ongoing post-basic education at diploma or degree level.
- Competent in basic nursing duties required for the post.
- Diploma or degree-level training in diabetes, CHD, asthma, and COPD.
- Willingness to undertake further training and personal development as identified by the practice.
