Job Summary

The Immunology department at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Practitioner to join their team. As an Associate Practitioner, you will play a crucial role in supporting the diagnostic service, working closely with experienced Biomedical Scientists to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Main Duties
  • Support the reception, sorting, and distribution of clinical and environmental samples.
  • Assess the suitability and appropriateness of samples submitted to the laboratory and take remedial action when required.
  • Process specimens for screening, diagnostic, and clinical management of patients using correct techniques and complex, specialized equipment.
  • Apply manual dexterity to process pathological specimens using aseptic technique.
  • Interpret clinical request forms to plan and prioritize workload according to clinical urgency and liaise with medical staff as needed.
  • Record investigations into the laboratory computer system and analyze clinical samples using appropriate kits and procedures.
  • Ensure the satisfactory completion and validation of automated assays and record results into the computer system.
  • Prepare and store specimens in low-temperature storage systems.
  • Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on specialist equipment and perform calibration and implement alternative methods in the event of failure.
Person Specification
  • HND or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, or individually, and organize and prioritize own workload.
  • Dextrous, good aseptic technique, able to handle fine pipettes and equipment.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods.
  • Able to follow written and spoken instructions.
  • Ability to act off own initiative.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Computer skills.
