About the Role

The Depot Van Manager will be responsible for the smooth running of the parcel shop operations within the Depot, managed on the day shift. This key role will ensure the performance of the parcel shop drivers, while proactively seeking ways to improve cost, service, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all areas of the day parcel shop operations, sortation, and transportation in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • People Management – recruitment, induction, and ongoing engagement of Warehouse drivers, as well as performance and attendance management.
  • Compliance – management of domestic driving hours, breaks, length of shifts, and rest periods.
  • Resourcing – planning of local routes to ensure effective delivery of parcels and effective utilization of rosters.
  • Cost Management – budget management to achieve agreed service levels, including productivity, labor costs, overtime usage, and agency usage.
  • Plan & Budget – collaboration with planning teams and Central Van Manager and DGM, including planning and preparation for peak periods.

Requirements

  • Transport knowledge, skills, or experience, including regulations.
  • Strong operational knowledge of end-to-end processes.
  • Ability to work on own initiative in a pressurized environment to tight deadlines.
  • CPC National Certificate is desirable.
  • Full driving license is required.
  • IOSH Qualified.
  • Advanced understanding of Management Information and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Good ability with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand cost controls, data reports, MI, and KPI metrics.
  • Experience in managing and leading a team.
