Job Title: Substance Misuse Outreach Nurse Specialist

About the Job: The Substance Misuse Outreach Nurse Specialist role focuses on providing healthcare services to adults facing challenges in engaging with traditional substance misuse treatment services in supported or temporary accommodations. The goal is to improve health outcomes, specifically targeting homelessness, and hostel residents with substance use concerns. This position involves various activities such as health promotion, general health screenings, and managing substance use and addiction disorders.

  • Health promotion initiatives
  • General health screenings including Dry blood spot testing, Hep B vaccination, ECG, and Fibroscan
  • Engagement in Primary Care services and facilitating access to organized health care
  • Management of substance use and addiction disorders
Main Responsibilities

As a Substance Misuse Outreach Nurse Specialist, you will be part of a new team operating across London Borough of Hounslow providing:

  • Comprehensive assessments and harm reduction interventions
  • Extended brief interventions to support service users
  • General health assessments and referrals to other health services
  • Community-facing work in various sites across the Borough

Key Skills and Qualifications
  • RMN/RN qualification
  • Evidence of continuing personal development in nursing care
Requirements
  • Post-registration experience in Mental or general Health
  • Relevant previous experience with drug and alcohol users
  • Case management and risk assessment experience
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification

  • Clinical knowledge of current NHS policies and national drug issues
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in changing situations
  • Respectful treatment of service users and culturally sensitive approach
