Job Title: Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy

HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy. As a key member of our Tax and Welfare family, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing policy and strategy for personal taxes, the welfare system, and labour markets.

About the Role

The Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy will be responsible for leading a team of experts in developing and implementing policy and strategy for personal taxes, the welfare system, and labour markets. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, including ministers, officials, and external partners, to ensure that our policies are effective and meet the needs of the UK population.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of experts in developing and implementing policy and strategy for personal taxes, the welfare system, and labour markets.
  2. Work closely with senior stakeholders, including ministers, officials, and external partners, to ensure that our policies are effective and meet the needs of the UK population.
  3. Develop and implement policy and strategy for personal taxes, the welfare system, and labour markets, taking into account the latest research and evidence.
  4. Provide expert advice and guidance to senior stakeholders on policy and strategy for personal taxes, the welfare system, and labour markets.
  5. Represent HM Treasury at national and international forums, promoting our policies and interests.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Outstanding leadership and management skills, with experience of leading high-performing teams.
  • Sound judgement and strategic vision, with a track record of leading in complex and uncertain policy environments.
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to absorb and interrogate data and analysis quickly and communicate it clearly and credibly to support decision making.
  • Understanding of welfare policy, the Budget process, and/or fiscal and spending frameworks.
