Job Title: Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy

HM Treasury is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy. This is a unique opportunity to lead a team of experts in shaping the UK's tax and welfare policies.

About the Role

The Director of Personal Tax and Welfare Policy will be responsible for leading a team of policy experts in developing and implementing tax and welfare policies that support the government's growth mission and opportunity mission. The role will involve working closely with senior stakeholders, including ministers, officials, and external partners, to ensure that policies are effective and efficient.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of policy experts in developing and implementing tax and welfare policies.
  2. Work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure that policies are effective and efficient.
  3. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including ministers, officials, and external partners.
  4. Provide strategic advice to the Chancellor and other senior officials on tax and welfare policy issues.
  5. Lead on distributional and equalities analysis to ensure that policies are fair and equitable.
Requirements
  • Outstanding leadership and management skills, with experience of leading high-performing teams.
  • Sound judgement and strategic vision, with a track record of leading in complex policy environments.
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to absorb and interrogate data and analysis quickly and communicate it clearly and credibly.
  • Understanding of welfare policy, the Budget process, and/or fiscal and spending frameworks.
