Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning Officer to join our Development Management team at Essex County Council. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused planning service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality planning service, providing specialist advice and support to customers and stakeholders.
  • Manage complex planning applications, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and legislation.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management and external stakeholders, including planning appeal hearings and public inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local authorities, developers, and community groups.
  • Line manage a team of planning officers, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Planning Officer or Principal Planner, with a strong understanding of planning legislation and policy.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service and delivery.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Experience of managing planning appeals and public inquiries, with a strong understanding of the planning appeal process.
