Our Mission

At Activate Learning, we encourage independence in our learners, preparing them for future employment or further education. Our students at Merrist Wood College engage in various programs at levels 1-3, focusing on fields such as agriculture, horticulture, animal care, environmental studies, equine management, forestry, landscaping, public services, and sports coaching.

As an Educational Support Specialist at Merrist Wood, you will assist students in diverse environments, from classrooms to outdoor settings, including animal care facilities and agricultural areas. Your day may involve supporting lessons in English or mathematics, assisting with practical activities, and exploring various plant species. Key qualities for our support specialists include patience, adaptability, teamwork, and a sense of humor.

Role Overview

In this position, you will support learners across multiple programs and ensure their overall well-being. Each day will present new challenges and opportunities.

You will engage in scheduled activities and provide assistance to our learners, helping them achieve their academic goals. With your strong communication abilities, you will foster positive relationships with students, enhancing their confidence and motivation.

As part of the educational team, you will collaborate with tutors and learners to tailor the learning experience to their needs. You will join a dedicated team focused on delivering high-quality support throughout the college.

Key Qualifications for Success

To excel as an Educational Support Specialist, you should possess the following:

  • Proficiency in IT applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • A creative approach to engaging learners and delivering effective support.
  • Experience in a further education setting is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A Level 3 Support Assistant qualification or equivalent is preferred but not essential.

Alongside excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to identify and address learner support needs. The ideal candidate will foster independence in learners, encouraging them to take ownership of their educational journey.
