Support Assistant for Alternative Provision

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Assistant to join our Alternative Provision / Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Ongar. This full-time role offers a temporary to permanent contract and is ideal for someone passionate about supporting students' emotional well-being and academic progress in a nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to students, both academically and emotionally.
  • Assist students in developing positive behaviour and self-management skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Support the pastoral needs of students, helping them overcome personal challenges and engage in learning.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff and parents as needed.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a pastoral or learning support role is desirable, but not essential.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by students in an Alternative Provision / PRU setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
