Job Summary:

UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the commercial programme for the Materials Division. As the Director of Materials Commercial Programme, you will be responsible for maintaining and expanding the commercial portfolio, working closely with the Fusion Materials leadership team to develop a reputation as a 'go to' source of expertise, innovation, consultancy, and training for materials development, irradiation, testing, and modelling.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the expansion of testing activity in the £50m Materials Research Facility (MRF) by creating new commercial fusion industry multi-year contracts and exploring opportunities in fission, aerospace, and high-end physics.
  • Develop business cases for the creation of new MRF satellite/external test facilities, ensuring alignment with UKAEA's business development and procurement-commercial-legal teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the Head of the Material Research Facility, Heads of Programme for Fusion Materials Interfaces and Materials Science and Engineering, to maximize the utilization of MRF State 2 capabilities.
  • Interface with external stakeholders, including the Fusion Industry Programme, UKAEA's Tech Transfer Hub, and DESNZ's Fusion Futures' Industry Capabilities, to identify new business opportunities and manage potential risks.
