Job Title: Stroke Medicine Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Stroke Medicine Specialist to join our team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Stroke team, you will play a vital role in ensuring that all stroke patients receive the highest possible level of care.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day care for stroke patients and outlying medical patients on the Graham stroke unit. You will also provide stroke-specific clinical input to general medical wards, working closely with nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure the stroke unit has sufficient capacity to accommodate all suitable stroke patients on admission to the hospital.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Ensure Stroke Unit and TIA Provider status is maintained.
  2. Develop and maintain the daily TIA service, including links and referral pathways with local GPs.
  3. Work with nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure the stroke unit has sufficient capacity to accommodate all suitable stroke patients on admission to the hospital.
  4. Collaborate with the local Hyper Acute Stroke Centre to ensure robust protocols for the transfer of patients following hyperacute treatments and/or stabilization.
Requirements
  • CCST in Stroke Medicine.
  • Higher Degree (MSc, MD or PhD).
  • Experience in emergency or critical care medicine.
  • Familiarity with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
  • Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospital operates.
  • Understanding of the importance of good clinical coding.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks.
