Job Overview

The Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Community Mental Health Service, you will play a vital role in providing intensive support to individuals in need.

Main Duties

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will work closely with individuals, families, and carers to promote positive outcomes and independence. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing proactive, practical support to individuals in a discreet Care Group setting
  • Encouraging service-users to participate in care and promoting healthy lifestyles
  • Liaising with other services to ensure a seamless service-users journey
  • Reporting back to the Multidisciplinary Team in a weekly meeting

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Criteria

  • A caring confident attitude
  • Able to work in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrate an interest in the entire client group
  • Able to respond to the individual rights/needs/opinions of service users
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to highlight risks in community settings, including those associated with lone working
  • To have or be able to undertake basic IT skills training
  • To be able to read, understand, and follow care pathways
  • To be able to write and record accurate information
  • An interest in and commitment to ongoing development in the role
  • Able to identify personal development needs participating in appraisal and clinical supervision

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of current issues affecting people with serious mental illness

Training and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 in Care or the equivalent/or be willing to work towards the qualification

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience of working with people across the age range, with varying mental health needs

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working in the community/people's own homes
  • Experience of working within acute mental health services
