The Freedom of Information and Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective management of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and compliance with relevant legislation across the St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Key Responsibilities- FOI Request Management
- Support the day-to-day management of all FOI requests, escalating matters to the Freedom of Information Manager as needed.
- Log all incoming FOI requests on the Trust's electronic FOI management system.
- Monitor the FOI inbox, ensuring incoming messages are appropriately managed and responded to in a timely manner.
- Review new FOI requests, triage, and allocate requests to the appropriate managers and senior managers in line with the Trust's FOI policy.
- Provide advice to staff regarding the application of FOI legislation and Information Commissioner's guidance.
- Track the progress of FOI requests to ensure timely responses are sent to requestors and that the Trust is compliant with statutory deadlines.
- Corporate Compliance
- Carry out web-based research to remain up-to-date with trends and changes within FOI, particularly in relation to the NHS.
- Maintain an understanding of data protection regulations and Trust Policy to ensure that information is only shared when appropriate.
- Support the Freedom of Information Manager with the delivery of training across the Trust.
- Support the Freedom of Information Manager and the Trust's Head of Governance in managing policy compliance and declarations of interest compliance across the Trust.
- General
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of corporate governance policies and procedures across the Trust.
- Promote excellent standards of corporate governance across the Trust.
- Support key projects of the Trust's Corporate Governance team as required.
- Provide cross-cover to other members of the Trust's Corporate Governance team as required.
Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Experience
Essential
- Experience in dealing with FOI requests in a large and complex organization.
- Understanding of FOI legislation.
Desirable
- Experience of working in an NHS setting in a corporate governance and compliance role.
