Job Summary

The Freedom of Information and Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act. This position will be responsible for managing FOI requests, providing advice on FOI legislation, and maintaining a register of requests.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day handling of FOI requests, escalating matters to the Freedom of Information Manager as needed.
  • Log all incoming FOI requests on the organization's electronic FOI management system.
  • Monitor the FOI inbox, ensuring incoming messages are appropriately managed and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Review new FOI requests, triage, and allocate requests to the appropriate managers and senior managers in line with the organization's FOI policy.
  • Provide advice to staff on the application of FOI legislation and Information Commissioner's guidance.
  • Track the progress of FOI requests to ensure timely responses are sent to requestors, and that the organization is compliant with statutory deadlines for responding to FOIs.
  • Draft high-quality responses to FOIs, assessing the information being provided and any possible harm resulting from its release.

Requirements
  • Education to degree level or equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience.
