Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Correctional Facility is seeking a skilled Electrical Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of electrical systems within our correctional facilities.

Position Duties

As an Electrical Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Supervising inmates in the electrical trade, ensuring they maintain control and discipline among inmate workers, conduct searches for contraband items, and administer verbal or written disciplinary actions.
  • Assigning installation, maintenance, or repair tasks to designated inmates, performing at various levels of proficiency in the trade.
  • Training and instructing inmates regarding methods and techniques, use of tools and equipment, and proper care of tools and equipment.
  • Inspecting and approving/disapproving all work performed by inmates for adherence to quality standards.
  • Estimating time, materials, and supplies to conduct assigned maintenance or repair tasks.
  • Ordering materials and supplies, keeping records and inventory of materials and tools.
  • Personally performing certain installation, maintenance, or repair tasks on electrical infrastructure.
  • Planning and implementing procedures.
  • Operating hand and power tools and equipment needed; maintaining records of time.
  • Escorting third-party vendors and inspecting completed work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education.
  • Two years of electrical experience.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland prior to permanent appointment.

Special Requirements

Selection standards for Correctional Officer certification are established by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria include citizenship or resident alien status, being at least 21 years of age, a completed background investigation, oral interview, and physical examination.
