Overview of the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Newborn Hearing Screener to join our team in Manchester. As one of the largest hearing screening programs in the North West, we play a vital role in the early detection of permanent significant childhood hearing impairments.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the principles of confidentiality, basic knowledge of the importance of early intervention in child care, and newborn hearing screening. They should be able to work effectively with members of the public, both individually and as part of a team, using excellent communication skills.

About the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to meet National Public Health England (PHE) quality assurance standards, local policies, and procedures. They will identify all newborn babies requiring screening, communicate effectively with parents/carers, and promote a professional and caring environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out hearing screening within maternity units, including Special Care and Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and outpatient clinics
  • Accurately processing data on the Smart4Hearing screening database
  • Making referrals to the audiology departments as per local procedure
