Job Title: Personal Tutor

Job Summary:

The Personal Tutor role at Heart of Worcestershire College is a key position in supporting learners to achieve their full potential. As a Personal Tutor, you will work closely with learners to identify their strengths and areas for improvement, and develop personalized learning plans to help them succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the cross-college Thrive tutorial programme to support learners in developing their personal, social, and employability skills.
  • Monitor and track attendance and progress of learners, and provide targeted support to those who need it.
  • Work with learners to set and achieve goals, and provide regular feedback and guidance to help them stay on track.
  • Support learners in developing their digital and study skills, and provide guidance on how to access online resources and tools.
  • Collaborate with curriculum staff and other support services to ensure that learners receive a comprehensive and supportive learning experience.
  • Act as an advocate for vulnerable student groups, such as Looked After Children, Care leavers, young carers, young parents, children known to social care, and those with an EHCP.
  • Support learners in developing their employability skills, including CV writing, interview preparation, and job search strategies.
  • Provide guidance and support to learners on how to access and make the most of college resources, including the library, careers service, and student support services.
  • Work with learners to identify and address any barriers to learning, and provide support to help them overcome these challenges.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure that learners receive a consistent and high-quality learning experience.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in education or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with learners, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Knowledge of the college's policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding, equality, and diversity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness to undertake training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.

Working Conditions:

The post is based at Redditch, but may require working at other locations from time to time. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and provide two satisfactory references.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this post is from £23,194 to £25,240 per annum pro rata, depending on qualifications and experience. The post carries 25 annual leave days, plus eight public bank holidays, and a further five concessionary days as 'leave to be taken at the Principal's discretion'. The college operates an occupational pension scheme, and the successful candidate will be required to contribute to this scheme.

Probationary Period:

All newly appointed staff have to serve a 9-month probationary period. During this time, the successful candidate will be required to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session, and additional mandatory courses on equality and diversity, safeguarding, and health and safety.
