About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Associate/Legal Director with a strong background in commercial law, particularly in public procurement and subsidy control. You will be responsible for advising clients on compliance issues related to the Subsidy Control Act, as well as providing commercial advisory services and drafting and negotiating documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on compliance issues related to the Subsidy Control Act
  • Provide commercial advisory services to clients, including strategic planning and contract drafting and negotiation
  • Support the team lead in providing non-contentious legal advice on public procurement advisory work
  • Review process documentation and support public bodies through threatened and actual procurement challenges
  • Handle an array of commercial supply-chain contracts, distribution terms and conditions, and franchise agreements
  • Provide regular training and update sessions and articles to clients and prospective clients

Requirements

  • Law degree (or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding and recognition of associated issues relating to legislation, including the Subsidy Control Act, Public Contracts Regulations, and Procurement Act
  • Good level of general commercial awareness and attention to detail
  • Solid experience of advising public sector clients in relation to all aspects of the application of relevant public procurement legislation
  • Driven to create workable solutions for the commercial issues in the best interest of the clients
  • Good level of experience of drafting and negotiating documentation
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clients' needs and expectations
  • Experience of advising clients on public procurement compliance
  • Excellence in service delivery and quality of services provided through technical and service excellence
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Time management skills showing ability to prioritise tasks
  • Excellent legal and commercial research skills
  • Ability to play a proactive part in business development activity individually and collectively
  • Experience of advising clients on public procurement compliance
  • Adherence to guidelines and procedures

  • Demonstrates understanding and recognition of associated issues relating to legislation: Data Protection Compliance, Unfair Terms and IP Application in practical situations in commercial context
  • A proven track record of involvement in effective business development activity
