Join NHS Blood and Transplant as a Strategic Programme Lead in our Digital Data & Technology Services (DDTS) directorate.

Company Overview

NHS Blood and Transplant is a national organisation responsible for collecting, processing, testing, and distributing blood and transplant services across the UK. As a strategic programme lead, you will be part of a diverse team working in a busy, rewarding, and challenging environment.

We have a large portfolio of complex projects and programmes, and this role is critical in managing inputs and relationships with key parts of the business through the full lifecycle. You will join us at an exciting time, taking decisions and implementing changes that will further improve the life-saving services we provide.

This is a national vacancy with a hybrid working option. The successful candidate may be based at any of our main centres in the UK, with the final location agreed at interview.

Salary

The salary for this position is estimated to be around £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan, support, and monitor the progress of programmes, maintaining up-to-date programme plans and reporting.
  • Manage internal resources and external suppliers and consultants.
  • Evaluate programme and project deliverables against strategic initiatives for the business unit.
  • Regularly suggest changes to policy or service development impacting beyond own area of work.
  • Oversee the planning, structuring, leading, and implementation of programmes, and escalate issues related to delivery or scope.
  • Ensure adherence to programme objectives.
About You
  • You should have extensive practical knowledge of benefits delivery by formal management of strategic business programmes.
  • You must have experience of formal management of complex programmes/projects, including the use of formal project management tools for the full lifecycle of large-scale programmes/projects.
  • Proven experience of benefits management and realisation in the formal programme context.
  • You should have experience creating outline business cases and programme/project briefs for communication at Board/Executive level.
  • You should have experience working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Project, Outlook, Visio, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint).
Qualifications and Training
  • A degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g., business, management, information systems) and post-graduate level specialist qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • A Practitioner Certificate in PRINCE 2 or equivalent qualification.
  • Commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

This role requires travel and occasional overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
