Reactor Plant Performance Engineer - Submarines

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Reactor Plant Performance Engineer to join our Submarines business in Derby. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analysing reactor performance for existing and new designs under normal, abnormal and accident scenarios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse reactor performance for existing and new designs under normal, abnormal and accident scenarios.
  • Develop a broad understanding of reactor plant operation and protection systems.
  • Carry out fluid flow and heat transfer analysis to support robust design evaluation of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant.
  • Use a combination of commercial and in-house developed codes and methods to assess primary systems and their components.
  • Define the pressure and temperature transient profiles for the life of the submarine on existing and future plant designs.
  • Perform development, verification and validation of models used in the analysis of the nuclear plant.

Requirements

  • Good understanding of fundamental engineering principles and processes.
  • Solid understanding of the principles of fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
  • Excellent communication skills and highly driven, striving to maintain excellent delivery performance.
  • Experience of simulating reactor coolant systems using industry-standard codes is desirable.
