Kitchen Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Assistant Chef to join our team at a reputable day nursery in the Catford area. This nursery is conveniently located near public transport links and is close to local shops.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Nursery Chef to prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for the children, ensuring that dietary needs and food safety standards are met. This role involves collaborating with the nursery team to create a positive mealtime experience for the children.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Nursery Chef in preparing balanced, healthy, and age-appropriate meals for children
- Help with meal planning, ensuring all meals comply with dietary and allergen requirements
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen at all times
- Ensure food is prepared and stored according to food safety regulations
- Assist with cleaning and washing up after meals, ensuring the kitchen remains a tidy and organised space
- Work collaboratively with nursery staff to understand children's dietary needs and preferences
- Help set up and serve meals in the dining area
- Support in keeping accurate records of food orders, stock levels, and kitchen safety checks
- Assist in receiving and storing food deliveries
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food preparation role (experience in a nursery or school setting is a bonus but not essential)
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
- Understanding of food safety, allergen awareness, and dietary requirements
- Good communication and teamwork skills
