Job Summary

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the company's global government affairs strategy, working closely with the Corporate Affairs team to drive engagement and influence with governments around the world.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, and the ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the life sciences sector and a passion for government relations and policy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage global government affairs programmes, working to strategies designed with the SVP Corporate Affairs and the commercial teams.
  2. Align with the Corporate Comms team to ensure all government affairs work is aligned and effective.
  3. Support Government Affairs team with briefings and administration.
  4. Build network with key government officials to promote Oxford Nanopore's mission and vision.
  5. Coordinate UK government engagement plans to meet short, medium, and long-term goals.
  6. Work closely with regional commercial and clinical leads to stay up-to-date on their work, priorities, and opportunities.
  7. Be responsible for the daily management of agency support, ensuring effective genomics policy work that aligns closely with organisational strategic priorities.
  8. Ensure that external support agencies are supplying us with intelligence, through identifying, monitoring, and influencing government legislation, regulation, and public policy to support the global commercial teams.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate in a science subject or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in policy or government relations.
  • Understanding of scientific policy areas, including scientific research and healthcare.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment, ideally within the life sciences sector.
  • Excellent written and editing skills, able to adapt tone to audience and platform.
  • Highly organised, able to handle multiple deadlines at once.
  • Ability to build strong relationships, collaborate with teams, and work well with cross-functional colleagues.
