Job Title: Healthcare Support Worker - Theatres Head and Neck

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our dynamic Head and Neck Theatre Team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients undergoing surgery in the Head and Neck Theatre.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the collection and preparation of patients before surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Apply and understand monitoring of patients before surgery, ensuring accurate and timely information is provided to the theatre team.
  • Act as a theatre runner to help with the setup of sterile equipment and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Maintain a safe environment, adhering to infection control protocols and ensuring the cleanliness of the theatre area.
  • Follow cleaning protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment for our patients.
  • Set up and maintain theatre equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.
  • Stock up and maintain stock levels with theatre, ensuring that all necessary supplies are available.
  • Handle tissue samples and document them correctly, maintaining accurate records.
  • Handle sensitive information, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection protocols.
Requirements
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients and other members of staff, both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Detailed understanding of the role of a Healthcare Support Worker.
  • Awareness of what is important to patients, ensuring their needs are met and their dignity is respected.
  • Understanding of how to work as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals.

Relocation Package

The Trust offers a generous relocation package of up to 30% of salary (capped at £18k) to support with relocation expenses for hard-to-fill positions where relocation would be an expectation to undertake the role fully.

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six-month period once you start employment.
