About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our team at KION Group. As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing control solutions for world-class automated material handling systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement control systems for automated material handling systems.
  • Develop PLC software and visualization systems.
  • Emulate control systems in a virtual environment and test PLC software.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and design input information.
  • Deliver controls engineering activities related to project design and implementation.
  • Ensure systems designed and supplied are CE Compliant to the Machinery Directive.
  • Produce all associated documentation, including design calculations, design specifications, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Commission controls systems on site and provide support to system commissioning activities and training for the end user.
  • Maintain good relationships with internal and external customers through the provision of a high-quality service.
  • Promote personal and business continuous improvement and development of processes to achieve improved time, cost, and quality of project delivery.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering is desirable, but those with a HNC/HND in Electrical/Mechatronics/Controls Engineering will also be considered.
  • Experience in designing controls systems in Siemens S7 or TIA Portal.
  • Extensive proven hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment.
  • Good understanding of PLC development tools.
  • Proficient with Industrial Networks such as Profinet, Profibus, ASi, EthernetIP, or similar.
  • Experience working with E-plan is desirable but not essential.
  • Good understanding of Electrical and Electronic technical manuals and drawings.
  • Understanding of design requirements such as Machine Directive and its standards.
  • Good understanding of distributed control systems.
  • Extensive understanding of software testing and emulation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence as the position will require travel up to 60% of the time to customer sites both in the UK and across EMEA.
