Principal Software Engineer for Genomic Data Processing

We are seeking a skilled Principal Software Engineer to play a pivotal role in driving the technical excellence of our bio-pipelines service. This service processes genomic data to support clinical judgments, and we are looking for a hands-on contributor with exemplary engineering skills who can think strategically to define architectural directions.

About the Role

This position involves being a problem-solver who identifies risks, issues, gaps, and dependencies and brings people together to find solutions. You will be working with a team to deliver positive outcomes, fostering collaboration and balancing immediate goals with long-term direction.

About the Tech Stack

Our bio-pipelines platform works across both on-premise High-Performance Compute clusters and AWS. Our workflows are orchestrated in Python/NextFlow, and we use tools like Python, MongoDB, and DynamoDB to deliver RESTful services. Key technologies include Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, GitLab for source code and CI/CD, Artifactory for software artefacts, and DataDog for observability.

Requirements

We are looking for a skilled technologist who thrives on fostering collaboration to deliver positive outcomes. Key skills include strong software engineering skills, awareness of software design patterns, knowledge of different database types, experience shaping and guiding architectural choices, and experience with DevOps practices. A background in healthcare or bioinformatics is desirable, as is experience in regulated environments.
