Electronics Hardware Team Leader Role Overview

Salary

We offer a competitive salary of £80,000 - £100,000 per annum.

Job Description

The Electronic Hardware Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of high-quality electronic hardware. The role requires expertise in digital electronics, analogue electronics, and PCB design.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing conflict resolution, making strong decisions, and acting independently based on evidence from direct reports.

The role involves splitting time between electronic engineering activities at a senior level and managing a team of engineers. The expected balance of the role is approximately 30/70 up to a maximum of 50/50.

The Electronic Hardware Team Leader's responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of engineers with varying levels of expertise.
  • Inspiring, coaching, and leading direct reports to achieve individual and business goals.
  • Resource allocation to ensure the team achieves product goals.
  • Team administration, including goal setting and performance reviews.
  • Technical leadership, including planning, architecture, development, and validation of new hardware designs.

Additional responsibilities include applying risk mitigation techniques, mentoring team members, driving technical conversations, and investigating challenging hardware issues.

The department is responsible for maintaining existing products and working closely with the NPI department to ensure successful transition between the development and production phase.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Electronics or a related field (2:1 or above).
  • Experience in manufacturing companies where they understand the consequences of their decisions and the importance of risk mitigation.
  • Expertise in low power but highly complex digital systems involving embedded Linux and FPGA's.
  • Competency in low noise, low power analogue receiver design and high voltage transmitter designs.
  • Simulation skills to actively simulate designs to conform to the mantra 'right first time.'
  • Understanding of EMC principles to design to meet EN60945 and other relevant standards.
  • Altium skills to create circuits and basic knowledge of PCB design techniques.
  • Leadership skills to lead others by coaching them to make the right choices.
  • Communication and team working skills to proactively communicate and work effectively with other team members.
