Breast Surgery Specialist

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust seeks an experienced Breast Surgery Specialist to join its multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive breast services to the community in Shropshire and Mid Wales. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to delivering high-quality patient care, while also participating in teaching, research, and audit activities.
About the RoleThis is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with experience in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery to work independently, caring for patients referred to the breast service through both symptomatic and screening pathways. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing clinical expertise in General Breast Cancer Services, including those referred from the screening programme;
- Delivering clinical and quality targets agreed with clinical teams, nationally and locally;
- Participating in audit and governance, supporting training for junior medical staff and other staffing groups;
- Carrying out administrative duties in support of clinical commitments;
- Being a core member and participating in the Breast Cancer MDT.
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- MBBS or equivalent qualification;
- FRCS/MRCS or equivalent certification;
- Holder of Intercollegiate Specialty Examination (or equivalent) certificate;
- Full Registration and licensure to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC);
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
Prior experience in routine Breast Cancer Surgery, Outpatient Clinics, and Surgery for screen-detected Breast Cancer is essential. Additionally, 12 months' training in Breast Oncoplastics at a recognized center, as well as personal experience in assessment for various reconstructive techniques, are required.
Working ArrangementsA formal job plan will be agreed upon between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues within three months of starting in post. The full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week, which will be reviewed annually. Any applicant who is unable to work full-time due to personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post, with modifications to the job content discussed on a personal basis.
Salary and BenefitsThe estimated salary for this position is £123,000 - £130,000 per annum, depending on experience. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust offers a competitive benefits package, including a pension scheme, life assurance, and annual leave.
