We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer with a strong background in PostgreSQL and familiarity with open-source technologies to join our team at Selby Jennings.

This role will place you within our database platform team to design, implement, and maintain critical database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring robust expertise in PostgreSQL, security management, and performance tuning, with experience across on-premise and cloud environments (AWS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage database solutions focused primarily on PostgreSQL, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across various platforms.
  • Serve as a PostgreSQL expert with 5+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in both on-premise and cloud environments (AWS RDS, Aurora).
  • Proactively monitor database performance and resolve issues to ensure seamless operations and scalability.
  • Implement database security measures, including encryption, access controls, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with development and business teams to optimize database schemas, queries, and indexing to improve performance and scalability.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of production experience managing PostgreSQL databases, with a focus on high availability, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience using open-source tools for database management and monitoring (e.g., pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Familiarity with SQL Server or other RDBMS platforms (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) is advantageous.
  • Experience in Linux-based environments for database management.
  • Solid understanding of security best practices and tools for encryption, database security, and permissions management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with containerized environments like Docker and Kubernetes for database deployments.
  • Familiarity with multi-database environments, including SQL Server, DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Snowflake.
  • Previous experience in the financial services sector, particularly with hedge funds or investment banks.
