As a key member of the West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Trust leadership team, the Medical Director will provide expert medical guidance and direction to the Trust Board on clinical standards, treatment regimes, and statutory duties. This includes implementing national policy, supporting clinical staff, and ensuring medical advice reflects national guidance.
The Medical Director will work closely with the Director of Nursing and Paramedic Practice and Patient Safety Director to ensure Trust policies and procedures align with legislation and are reviewed as required.
Clinical LeadershipThe Medical Director will provide strong medical leadership at all levels, contributing to the development of corporate strategy, policy, and decision-making activity. They will assume joint responsibility for corporate performance and the achievement of the Trust's strategic objectives.
The Medical Director will also be responsible for the medical leadership of the Hazardous Area Response Team and contribute to the successful team working of the Trust Board and executive team.
Clinical GovernanceThe Medical Director will actively contribute to the reduction of clinical risk to patients through participation in risk management, complaint resolution, and incident investigation. They will chair Medical Committees to provide guidance and direction to the Trust, ensuring correct reporting lines exist to meet internal and external requirements.
Clinical Education & DevelopmentThe Medical Director will act as the representative for Trust staff who hold a medical professional registration, providing guidance on matters directly linked to that professional status.
Clinical Audit & ResearchThe Medical Director will participate in relevant continuous professional development (CPD) and maintain doctor revalidation in accordance with national requirements.
Performance ManagementThe Medical Director will regularly report on the performance of medical professionals within the Trust, establishing a supportive, fair, and open culture that encourages and enables all parts of the workforce to meet required performance standards.
Working with External StakeholdersThe Medical Director will ensure the Trust provides medical advice and leadership at the Emergency Care Networks within the Region, supporting the Trust by providing a media presence and informed comment to journalists.
Incident ManagementThe Medical Director will act at major incidents within a gold or silver management role, taking on an advisory role or a formal medical or management function as appropriate.
GovernanceThe Medical Director will support effective corporate governance arrangements, embracing high standards of employment practice and acting in accordance with the Manager Code of Conduct. They will promote the vision, values, and goals of the organisation and act within the General Medical Council's Good Medical Practice guidance.
