R&D Technician

Main Responsibilities:

• Compounding of seasonings samples, including cooking and working with meat & poultry ingredients, as required. Application of seasonings onto relevant base per customer requests. Assist in preparing samples for research, shelf-life testing, and other requirements.
• Prepare and dispatch samples to customers globally, meeting specific customs requirements for each country. Work with existing systems to create necessary documents and liaise with the International Trade Compliance team.
• Maintain laboratory stock of raw materials, including experimental raw materials, at appropriate levels. Ensure raw materials and products are kept as required and within shelf-life date requirements.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with company, third-party, and customer requirements, and in line with key performance indicators.
• Sampling and picking up of raw materials from the factory located on the same site.
• Setting up an internal tasting panel for flavor evaluation of raw materials and finished products, including FTO trial samples. Maintain tasting records.
• Attendance and participation at routine sensory panels, both R&D and Quality.
• Work on existing lab systems to maintain data and traceability of raw materials and finished products.
• Be cross-trained on a range of other duties in the department to participate in cover for daily activity of the R&D Lab team as required, to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with deadlines.
• Manage third-party calibration of scales and equipment for the R&D Lab to meet requirements of the QMS, regulatory, and audit requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment in accordance with health & safety standards.
• Conduct internal audits (HACCP, quality systems, food safety, glass, and Health & Safety).
• Support the preparation and execution of external customer and third-party audit programs.
• Lead and/or actively participate in continuous improvement projects.

Candidate Profile:

• Further education to HNC or equivalent in a science subject (preferably chemistry/biochemistry). Practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices.
• Degree in Food Science/Nutrition/Consumer Science would be advantageous.
• Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment working within a laboratory or food industry.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous.
• PC literate as a minimum.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data.
• Willing and capable to learn new skills.
• Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment.
• Effective time management skills.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and to deal with constant changes.
