R&D Laboratory Technician

The successful candidate will be responsible for compounding seasonings samples, applying seasonings onto relevant base per customer/developer requests, and assisting in preparing samples for research, shelf-life testing, and other requirements.

Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for preparing and dispatching samples to customers globally, meeting specific customs requirements for each country, and working with existing systems to create necessary documents and liaising with the International Trade Compliance team.

The ideal candidate will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory stock of raw materials, including experimental raw materials, and ensuring that stock levels are at an appropriate level. They will also be responsible for ensuring that raw material and product retains are kept as required and are within shelf-life date requirements.

Other responsibilities include sampling and picking up of raw materials from the factory located on the same site, setting up an internal tasting panel for flavor evaluation of raw materials and finished products, and maintaining tasting records.

The candidate will also be responsible for attending and participating in routine sensory panels, both R&D and Quality, and working on existing lab systems to maintain data and traceability of raw materials and finished products.

Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for being cross-trained on a range of other duties in the department to participate in cover for daily activity of the R&D Lab team as required to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with deadlines.

The candidate will also be responsible for managing third-party calibration of scales and equipment for the R&D Lab in order to meet requirements of the QMS, Regulatory, and Audit requirements.

Finally, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment in accordance with health and safety standards, conducting internal audits (HACCP, quality systems, food safety, glass, and Health & Safety), and supporting the preparation and execution of external customer and third-party audit programs.

The ideal candidate will have a further education to HNC or equivalent in a science subject (preferably chemistry/biochemistry) and practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices.

A degree in Food Science/Nutrition/Consumer Science would be advantageous, as would relevant experience in a manufacturing environment working within a laboratory or food industry.

The candidate should have good written and verbal communication skills, working knowledge of SAP, and PC literacy as a minimum.

They should also have attention to detail, ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data, and be willing and capable to learn new skills.

Finally, the candidate should be willing to work in a manufacturing environment and have effective time management skills, ability to work to tight deadlines, and deal with constant changes.
