The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is a leading centre for Enhanced Recovery in Liver transplantation, with an impressive track record of COVID-19 outcomes. As a Band 5 ICU Nurse, you will join a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care, working alongside the UCL Institute for Immunity and Transplantation. Our ICU team cares for a diverse range of patients, including those with hepatology, infectious disease, cardiac, and rheumatology conditions, as well as surgical patients requiring Hepatobiliary, Vascular, and Renal surgery.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Band 5 Nurses to develop their skills and transition to Band 6. Our comprehensive development programme includes the Royal Free London NHS Trust Adult Intensive Care Course and the Intermediate Life Support Course. You will have the chance to rotate between our two ICUs and enjoy flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. To assess patient care needs, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.
  2. To undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff.
  3. To communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing reassurance and empathy.
  4. To maintain accurate and comprehensive nursing records.
  5. To facilitate smooth patient discharge, making referrals and providing information to community services as needed.
  6. To ensure safe drug administration and custody, including intravenous medication where necessary.
  7. To supervise junior staff and ensure they have the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to carry out delegated tasks.
  8. To work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to promote effective communication and patient care.
  9. To participate in the audit of the Essence of Care benchmarking process and implement action plans as required.
  10. To adhere to safe working practices as mandated by the Health & Safety at Work Act.
Requirements:
  • A valid NMC PIN number.
  • A minimum of 9 months' experience in surgical/medical acute wards.
Desirable:
  • Post-registration courses related to ICU.
  • Experience in ICU.
