Purpose and Summary:

To work in a residential setting, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to young people in various settings, including classroom, education, and off-site activities. The role involves enabling young people to develop by providing physical and emotional support, maintaining a stable, happy, and caring environment that prioritizes their health, safety, and welfare.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To build positive professional relationships with young people and other staff, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment to live and work in.
  • To know and actively promote young people's specific needs, helping to meet those needs in the most appropriate way, following relevant policies and procedures.
  • To assist young people with medical and welfare needs, reporting as required, and administering medication as needed.
  • To help young people maintain their personal cleanliness, general hygiene, and appearance, including intimate care and invasive care when trained.
  • To keep up to date with and promote various communication and information systems.
  • To attend and participate in meetings as appropriate, being an effective Keyworker/Personal Tutor for young people as required.
  • To support young people in managing their behavior, using approved approaches, and promoting equality, acknowledging their differences and upholding their rights and responsibilities.
  • To safeguard young people from any form of abuse, reporting any concerns to management promptly.
  • To write accurate and comprehensive reports for reviews and keep written records for monitoring purposes as required.
  • To take primary responsibility for a specific area of service development or a specific project.
  • To attend all required training and be prepared to achieve qualifications appropriate to the role as specified by the organization.
  • To actively promote and develop learning while participating in programs, activities during residential, leisure, and/or classroom situations.
  • To attend work reliably and punctually, following a work pattern as required to fulfill the role, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays, and be prepared to work overtime if needed.
  • To support young people during transfers from one residential setting to another, actively liaising with the transition department.
  • To ensure knowledge of relevant standards and how they are implemented into the care setting.
  • To attend review meetings with key young people and act as an advocate where required.
  • To be actively involved in the effective planning, preparation, supervision, and review of all routines, social, and recreational activities, on and off site, for students and the waking day curriculum.
  • To take responsibility for completing activity planners, sign-in/out books for on/off-site activities, as agreed by senior managers.
  • To give constructive feedback to support workers to improve their performance and be a mentor as part of regular supervision and an annual appraisal.

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to carry out effective debrief.
  • Qualification - Level 3 RQF certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.

About the Role:

This role is part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team comprising a Registered Manager for the whole service, with a Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager in each home.
