About the Role

Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited is seeking a highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing a team of multi-discipline contractors and supply chain partners to deliver commercial excellence on one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK.

Main Responsibilities
  • Commercial Management: Achieve the appropriate commercial result for projects through the provision of accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Supply Chain Management: Build and maintain working relationships with the supply chain and clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Contract Administration: Manage subcontractor supplier accounts, financially and contractually, and monitor subcontractors against the programme.
  • Procurement: Develop, manage, and coordinate the procurement schedule, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
  • Measurement and Valuation: Complete measurements and valuations of work executed, ensuring that they meet the conditions of the contract.
  • Cost Control: Monitor project expenditure against budget, provide analysis of cost over-run and cost projections, and explore opportunities to maximise value and minimise cost.
  • Client Liaison: Liaise with clients on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims, and additional payments.
  • Contractual Claims: Identify legitimate contractual claim situations and prepare suitable documentation to clients.
  • Commercial Risk Management: Create project-specific commercial risk and opportunity profiles with measurable controls and allocate responsibility.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and support a team of Surveyors, including people management interventions such as performance management, individual focus reviews, workforce planning, and the continuous professional development of the team.
Requirements
  • Experience in pre- and post-contract experience in a construction commercial management role working on major projects.
  • Experience administering NEC form of contract.
  • Degree or demonstrable suitable commercial management experience.
  • Strong understanding of modern Civil Engineering techniques, plant, and equipment, and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues.
  • Appreciation of the impact of cost on the completion of a programme and development of a construction solution.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Full Manual UK driving licence essential.
