Editorial Quality and Compliance Lead

This is an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team, reporting to the BBC News Global Director. The Senior Editorial Quality and Compliance Lead will play a key role in enhancing the consistency and quality of news output across the World Service Group, ensuring alignment with our strategic priorities.

- Develop and implement effective processes to protect the World Service Group's reputation and integrity, collaborating with Editorial Policy to ensure compliance with editorial standards.
- Provide quality control and consistency to enhance the strength, depth, and quality of output for the World Service Group, ensuring alignment with the Group's strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with World Service Group editorial leaders to maximize editorial value across the Group, increasing audience reach and ensuring alignment with the wider BBC News objectives.
- Safeguard World Service Group's journalistic and editorial standards, supporting the Group's brand and enhancing reach, reputation, and impact of World Service journalism.
- Develop and embed ways of working that drive positive change in editorial focus and control, leading to a culture of consistently high-quality journalism.
- Support team management activities, including recruitment, development, training, and employee relations, in line with agreed standards and practices.
- Support senior editorial leaders with high-risk journalism through the provision of pan-World Service group editorial oversight and championing impartiality.
- Provide insight to the Managing Editor team responsible for journalism training to ensure output is at a consistently high level.
- Develop a culture across the World Service Group that delivers a greater understanding of editorial quality.
- Represent the World Service Group and BBC News and Current Affairs at a senior level, taking accountability for the implementation and delivery of wider World Service Group strategic goals.
Key Requirements
- Expert leadership and management skills, with the ability to provide professional guidance and mentorship.
- Adept at managing multiple stakeholders, often working under tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Clear understanding of the way in which output is commissioned, financed, and produced for domestic and international markets.
- Broad and comprehensive knowledge of all BBC regulatory and contractual obligations.
- Experience in managing significant budgets and understanding key financial drivers.
