About Us:

Tokamak Energy is a pioneer in fusion energy, dedicated to providing a limitless, safe, clean, and low-cost energy source for global energy security. Our team combines world-leading scientific, engineering, industrial, and commercial capabilities to design and operate spherical tokamaks, the optimal route to commercial fusion energy.

Salary:

The estimated annual salary for this position is £80,000 - £110,000, depending on experience.

Company Overview:

Tokamak Energy has 70 families of patent applications and has raised $250 million from private investors and governments. We have established ourselves as a leader in High Temperature Superconductor (HTS) magnet design, numerical modelling, and prototyping.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and validate reduced models and computational tools for edge plasma physics, including pedestal stability and transport, SOL physics, and divertor heat flux handling.
  2. Contribute to integrated scenario modelling of ST40 and next-step devices, developing the physics basis for spherical tokamaks.
  3. Work individually and as part of a team towards deliverables that contribute to operations, projects, and product development, aligning with company objectives and strategy.
  4. Train, mentor, and upskill colleagues.

Requirements:

  • PhD in plasma physics or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with edge plasma modelling codes (e.g., EDGE2D, Hermes-3, SOLPS-ITER, XGC, EPED, ELITE).
  • Proficient in modern programming languages (C++ or Python preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of tokamak edge plasma physics.
  • Experience working in a research environment or developing novel technologies.
