**Job Summary**
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic qualified Teacher of the Deaf to provide specialized skills within the Hearing Implant multidisciplinary team. As a regional service, we care for deaf children and adults across the South West of England.
The post holder will manage the support provided to patients, carers, and educational settings in their assessment and care pre and post implantation. The post holder will be based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol, but as a regional service, support is delivered across the South West.
**Key Responsibilities**
- To be part of a team of Teachers of the Deaf based at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol, providing high-quality specialist input to the regional specialist West of England Hearing Implant Programme.
- To work both within the multi-disciplinary team and independently, without direct supervision, maintaining accountability for own professional actions, within professional guidelines and Programme protocols.
- To work collaboratively with the Programme Speech and Language Therapists, Audiologists, and Clinical Psychologist in assessment, joint report writing, and goal setting.
- To be prepared to work in the hospital, the child's home, and/or their educational setting.
- To assess and monitor patient's listening and communication, working closely with colleagues and local professionals, during the assessment phase. Ability to analyze and interpret the results as part of the decision-making process.
- To be involved in the preparation for cochlear implants for the patient, their family, and local professionals.
- To provide high-quality, knowledgeable information on hearing loss, its impact on communication, and expectations and progress following implantation.
- To be familiar with, and confident in managing, the range of speech processors, accessories, and assistive devices used by the Programme. To be able to troubleshoot the devices and support implant users to manage their equipment efficiently.
