Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and caring individual to provide person-centred support to people with learning disabilities in our services.

You will work in partnership with individuals to enable them to take control over their lives and make progress towards their personal goals. You will work in an anti-discriminatory manner, ensuring that the rights and entitlements of the Service Users are respected at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop trusting relationships with service users to encourage them to express their needs, views, and concerns.
  • Assist service users in drawing up care plans and person-centred plans that reflect their needs and wishes.
  • Enable service users to be fully involved in the running of their own life, including cooking, cleaning, shopping, and washing, while encouraging choice and independence.
  • Provide personal care for service users, as needed, while respecting their dignity and rights.
  • Encourage service users to meet their cultural and spiritual needs and express their personal identity.
  • Work within and promote the Adult and Children's safeguarding policies of Carlisle Mencap, Cumbria's Adult Social Care, and Children's Services.
  • Implement individual care plans and person-centred plans.
  • Be responsible for the safe storage and administration of medication, as required.
  • Enable service users to make full use of community facilities and accompany them in leisure pursuits.
  • Uphold the vision and good standing of Carlisle Mencap.
  • Liaise with families and other agencies as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Work as part of a team to provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Ability to direct, develop, and support everyday living and community skills.
  • Ability to assist individuals with monies and help manage finances.
  • An open and approachable attitude.
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and overnight.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • RQF Level 2 in Adult Care or other qualification related to the role.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with a learning disability in a residential or community setting.
  • Ability to use sign language, e.g., Makaton.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Familiarity with local community.
  • Attitude and personal attributes, including interests in various activities and hobbies.
